Bulldozers Appear in the Community Garden (2023)

The 6th Street and Growing Community Garden in Newark, Ohio, was a project in a low-income neighborhood, nurtured by churches, the city, Denison University and other non-profit community groups.  The garden plots were free to community members, and more than 100 people raised fruits and vegetables in its fertile soil.  David was the garden coordinator. He encouraged people to learn gardening from each other and from the Ohio State Agricultural Extension Service.  

After six years, the owner of the land made other arrangements for his property. This painting shows the moment when bulldozers appeared, ready to take over 50 percent of the land to build an apartment building.
